RE Curriculum

RE Curriculum
At Holy Infants, RE is at the heart of school life and at the core of our curriculum. Religious Education makes up at least 10% of our teaching time. The “Come and See” scheme of work forms the basis of our curriculum for Religious Education, as recommended by Salford Diocese. It is an excellent scheme which helps our pupils to secure the knowledge, skills and understanding as required by the Religious Education Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools.
We supplement this scheme with a variety of other resources; the Bible is a key, vital resource for our all our school life. We use creative and engaging ways to deliver the objectives within our scheme of work. This could include writing, reading, art, drama, debate and the use of ICT. Cross curricular approaches to Religious Education are encouraged e.g. R.E through literacy – letter writing, arguments, persuasive writing; reflecting on religious pieces of art and responding to them; using ICT to research different faiths; drama through role play.
We recognise the importance of reflection in Religious Education, and our curriculum provides opportunities for this, from the youngest children to the oldest.
Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. Requests should be made in writing to the Headteacher. While we respect this right, as a Catholic school we strongly encourage parents to discuss any concerns with us, as RE is central to our mission and is taught in an inclusive, educational way.
RE Policy
SRE
The Life to the Full programme is based on the structure of ‘A Model Catholic RSE Curriculum’ by the Catholic Education Service. This model curriculum was highlighted as a work of good practice by the Department of Education so we therefore have confidence that the programme will be fit for purpose in supporting the growth and development of your child.
Life to the Full is much more than a series of lessons. It is an entire platform of creative resources that will engage, inform and inspire our children and, indeed, you as parents. This includes interactive video content, story-based activities, employing a wide range of teaching tools, original worship music and an accompanying programme of classroom prayers.
Life to the Full is intended to be partnership between home, school and church. We know that you already do a fantastic job and we see our new programme, Life to the Full, as a means to further develop, support and enrich the partnership between home, school and church so that your child is fully supported.

Catholic Social Teaching
As CAFOD says, Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world. As such, at Holy Infant’s, we look for opportunities to put our faith into action.
In addition to our RE curriculum, we devote special time to Caritas In Action. Caritas is a charity whose mission is to help those across the Diocese of Salford, experiencing poverty, disadvantage and discrimination to transform their lives with dignity.
We regularly fundraise for CAFOD and Urban Outreach and many other charities. Each class has chosen their own class charity to fundraise for which they do over the course of the year.
Also, our Y5 Faith in Action team are inspired to act by what they see in their local and global community. They have campaigned for Ukrainian refugees and set up a grub tub for Urban Outreach.
